We are finishing up science this year with a short unit on simple machines. There will not be a major test on this unit but there will be a short quiz that will ask the students to identify the seven simple machines we studied and give one example for each type of simple machine. The seven types of machines are those listed above (wheel, inclined plane, screw, pulley, gears, wedge, and lever). They will also be asked to identify the simple machine depicted in an image but they will be given choices to choose from. For instance there might be a picture of a wheelbarrow and they would be asked to choose whether this image best depicts a wedge, gears, or a wheel.
We will be building or playing with samples of each of these kinds of machines in class before the students will write the quiz so they will have hand on experience and application of this content. The quiz will likely be sometime during second half of the week of June 19th-23rd. I will give the children plenty of heads up.
